LATI Q&A

1. I heard there's a Los Angeles Taiko Institute (LATI) in the works.

Super excited about this!!  But... what exactly is it?  Can I take classes there?

LATI is a dedicated taiko school that aims to provide world­-class instruction and research on taiko music and pedagogy. Open to everybody, at any given moment LATI will offer more than a dozen, 12-­week courses on a variety of taiko topics, eventually expanding to offer a full lineup of weekly courses, one-­time workshops, multi-­day intensives, and full-­time taiko apprenticeships.

2. Where is LATI located?

LATI will be housed at Asano Taiko U.S. in Torrance, California.

3. My group is looking for a practice space in the LA area.  Can we rent space for our rehearsals at LATI?

Yes!  Although the prices have not yet been determined, we do plan to rent out our soundproofed rooms fully loaded with all the Asano Taiko equipment you will ever need.  So essentially a group can exist without having their own practice space nor taiko.  If you have an idea and a set of passionate taiko friends, you’re set to start your taiko group without any hassle.  When performance time comes, you can rent drums from Asano Taiko US too!

4. The Grand Opening of Asano Taiko US and LATI is July 26-28, right?

ASANO TAIKO US Q&A

1. I heard that Asano is going to open a store in Los Angeles.  Super excited about this!!  Where exactly will it be located?

Yes, we are excited too!

Our facility is located at 20909 S. Western Ave. Torrance, CA 90501

2. When will Asano Taiko US open?  

Our grand opening event will be on July 26-28, 2013, jointly with LATI. We will be celebrating with a series of workshops, concerts, lectures, a taiko store. Guests from Japan (Yoshikazu Fujimoto, Yoko Fujimoto, Yu Imafuku, and Shunsuke Kimura) will be performing in the concerts all 3 days. Also, don’t miss out on the LATI Staff’s debut performance! 3.  I am in desperate need of new tabi and a new shime--can I buy them at Asano Taiko US?

Yes! We have all drums, bachi, narimono, and tabi available at Asano Taiko US’ showroom/store.

4.  Does this mean I can order Asano taiko online without paying international shipping?

We will eventually have an online store and you will only have to pay domestic shipping.

5.  Do you have a website or Facebook page?  Where can I get more information about store hours and items for sale?

Our website is still under construction (opening very soon), but we have a Facebook page where you can get all our information and updates.

6. For those of us outside of the States, is the international shipping through Asano US going to be cheaper than Asano (Japan)?  

We think shipping from Asano (Japan) is cheaper. It may depend on the product you are purchasing. We will send your items from the store where the shipping is cheaper.
